I love my country, very much. Indonesia is the place where I was born, the place where I grew up. I am enthralled with the beautiful sceneries, heroic past-stories, and friendly people. Smiling faces always greet me when I leave my house. That is feeling which I cannot get in a fast-paced city like Singapore. My nationalism is instilled since I am in the first grade of primary school. I used to attend the flag ceremony on Monday, and on independence day.

But, for me the most special ceremony is the ceremony on seventeenth of August, this year. Since I was not listed in any Indonesian schools, I insisted to join the peaceful ceremony in proclamation monument. I came to the renowned monument in 7.30 a.m. I saw approximately thousands of people; from the old folks to young children, from common people to the country’s ministers. All seated with a national pride on their faces.

Among the row of chairs, there were some seats left. My father, who accompanied me, and I, took our seats. There were many uniformed men already seated. They wore a brown shirt with long sleeves. I assumed they were the fighters. They had fought bravely for the country. They battled the British Gurkha Army, the Dutch – Australian’s KNIL, and the Japanese. I respected their courage and their patriotism to our beloved country.

It was 8 o’clock, and the ceremony started. Hundreds of teenagers, who organized the ceremony, entered the field in front of the sitting audience. They came from “Barisan Merah Putih (Red-White Force)” organization. Then, one girl from the front line stepped forward to the stage. She was our mistress of ceremony. She talked very loudly, and the noise coming from the loudspeaker was deafening. My father and I had to cover our ears. The well-dressed girl then read the agenda.

The first activity was the flag raising. Three slender-handsome men, walked solemnly, just like what the national army did. The center man brought the national flag. They looked very serious, since they seen by the horde of audience. They were broadcasted by television three television stations. They must feel very nervous.

Soon, our national anthem “Indonesia Raya” was played on the proclamation monument. The audiences stood up, singing the historical song. The song had banned by Dutch authorities during the term of their occupation in Indonesia. W. R. Supratman, the composer of this anthem, played it secretly during the youth congress on 1928.

The next agenda was the proclamation text’s reading. The older man, about forty years old, went to the blue-carpeted stage. It was the text, who had been recited by Soekarno, Indonesian’s first president. The ex-soldiers people, who sat nearer to the stage, followed the man’s speech. In their age, they still could remembered the long and remarkable speech very well. Even the next generation, the successor of my country, can said nothing. It was a shame to admit that.

Fortunately, that was the last item. My father and I went back to our home in eight thirty. On my way to my home, I thought about nationalism. I had felt my nationalism was high, by attending ceremony in the historical place. But, I found out that I was wrong. I did not really know my country. I promise to read up more of the country’s past.

Original score: 19/30.

Life is a choice. In one’s life, someone has to make some salient decisions, which often determines his or her future. Choosing a life-time partner, entering a new job, or even finding an appropriate dress for dinner, needs wisdom and careful planning. If one is not pay attention, the effect of the mistake might disadvantage him or her.

Choosing the right education is more important than those I have mentioned earlier. Education should not be taken lightly. Thus, one is the distance one’s residence ahas to think carefully before continuing his or her study.

The first factor that someone has to consider nd one’s school or university. Distance is important, because the further it is from school or university, the longer time it will take for one to travel. Often travelling a long distance makes someone gets home tired. He or she cannot learn anymore at home, and straight away to take a rest. It’s harder to concentrate or studies after rest.

My second factor to consider is the facility provided by the school or university. Let me give you an example. I have a friend in my secondary school in Indonesia, who is talented in badminton. He plays very often, and he always wins the annual badminton competition in my city. Unfortunately, his school does not have a badminton court. He plays in the empty field near the school, using his father’s racket and shuttlecock. The facility inside the place of study can support one’s gifted talent, so one can develop it to pursue one’s dream. My friend could be a national if not a world badminton champion if he has been given proper facilities.

The next factor is the output of the place of study. One has to ask and search in newspaper or internet if it the place is really good. It may be advisable to find out how many students from that school or university has obtained perfect score in examination. How about job’s prospect? The end of one’s education is to look for the job, isn’t it?

The fourth point in my explanation is the learning environment. There are some old schools which being very rigorous with their student. It makes the graduated students cannot dealing with with the real problems outside the school. But on the other hand, there are some institutions that allow freedom to the students. It maes the students feel free and do everything whatever they want, even something prohibited such as vandalising, smoking, or even taking drugs.

My fifth and last factor is the cost. Money plays a very important role in the world nowadays. It will be fortunate if one can find a good place to study and yet pay low entrance and monthly fee. In this country, one has to pay about six thousand dollar to enter the secondary school, and almost twenty thousand dollar for university. It is not included with the monthly, book, and laboratory fee. The more someone pays, the more someone gets.

To underline my explanation, someone has to think carefully about education. One has to consider these factors, in order to have a brighter future.

Original score: 18/30.

This is my second composition in Singapore. My actual score is 18/30, but the following text is the teacher’s revision.

—

They are starving, but they are still rushing around everywhere. The malls are crowded with people and shops are offering discounts. The housewives are shopping in the traditional market, while their husbands are working hard. They have received their salary a week earlier. Bonuses are also distributed before the ‘Special Day’.

Yes, it is Lebaran, a celebration day. A day after moslems fulfilled their vows to avoid eating, drinking, and doing other prohibited behavior or habits during Ramadan. Lebaran, which is a compulsory for a moslem to celebrate, is not fully modelled by the Prophet of Mohammed. In Indonesia, lebaran celebration is bigger and more cheerful than Hari Raya Haji. In Saudi Arabia, Hari Raya Haji is celebrated in grandeur.

The night before lebaran, the takbir is heard aloud in every mosque, “Allahuakbar” (Allah is the greatest) echoes all over the place. Little children and teenagers play with firecrackers, adding more splendour to this festival. The rustling leaves can no longer be heard, because the “suit” and “duum” sounds prerailed above the sky. Older people usually go to the nearest mosque. The sacred festival is interrupted by the crackling fireworks, and because of this, the police stepped in and warned the children. Eventually, the sound of explosion was replaced by the sandals worn by the children.

Night passes so fast, and when the sun rises, Moslems are leaving their homes, collectively heading towards the open field nearest to their homes. Leaders and the common people start this feast with a morning prayer, which is called “eid”. There is a two-cycle prayer, followed by the preachers’ sermon for thirty minutes.

The pilgrims are going back to their homes after prayers. Up to this point, the rituals or practices are ordained by Prophet of Mohammed. The mosques are now empty, but the real celebration has not yet started

All the siblings and relatives gather in one place, usually in their grandparents’ house. The fathers talk to each other in the living room, while the mothers busy themselves in the kitchen. Many plates of ketupat, boiled rice and wrapped in woven palm, are served to the whole family. The side dishes, including opor ayam and gudeg, are also put in the dining table. Everybody is sitting around the table, waiting for their turn to enjoy the delicious dishes.

They also greet each other, apologize for their past deeds forgiveness. Friends, families, and relatives are visiting each other, making atonement for past sins and renewing kinship or friendship. This is the sweetest part of lebaran. Everybody expresses their love, and shows respect to each other.

As you have already known, major separation is the most considerable thing in our students, particularly for our students in the senior high school nationwide. The program, which has been held since our independence day in 1945, is intended to actualize the student’s talent based on each competency on every subject. This program almost has no change since that: choosing Science, Social, or Language Class. But, what makes it different is only the way to channelize: The prosper school choose the appropriate majors for their students by holding a psychological test, hiring the psychologist, while the poor are only gazing to the students final report in tenth grade. The others are the same. Although the government said the program have a very good intention, but I think it is ambivalence, moreover about the time for separation. In my opinion, the program is should be held in the second semester of tenth grade.

The first reason why the separation should be held earlier is because the subjects whom the students will learn in the classroom are too many to study. Taking a glimpse in a senior high school student in the morning, they bring many books to the school, which is usually not used appropriately because they only bring it only to follow their teachers’ order. The process of study becomes futile because the students have been stressed with the number of subject they should learn, moreover in the tenth year. Not only that, the other unreasonable thing is about the examination, which is comes as a headache for the pupils. Added with the SKS (Sistem Kebut Semalam or One Night Learning) system, it makes the learning process in the classroom has no use. A very-long six days of examination in tenth grade makes the students become red in their face.

The next reason is because there is not enough time to master each majors, as well as science, social, or language majors. The two years (according to the legal rule) to study is not enough for the students to learn, although the number of lesson have been reduced. The effective learning only can be done in three semesters, while there are many topics to discuss in the book. From biology to chemistry, or from history to sociology, these students cannot understand the topic adequately. What they really know is the skin of this lesson, not the flesh. They overlook the correlation between one thing and another; because they only memorize the topic, not absorb the topic. This kind of habit, which is mostly admitted by the students as a flaw, can reduce a quality of our future workers, and can cause a problem in Indonesian step in the next time.

Strangely, not only the students are worried about the lesson, but also the teachers for each subject, especially for the main subject such as biology, chemistry, economy, geography, etc. The teachers are anxious about the score of their students, especially in the National Examination. My Indonesian teachers told me that she is in the tip of horns because of the sudden decrease in score of the test. She was almost fired by our principal, but fortunately this year the score lifted up. I do not know her way to elevate the score, but what I know is many teachers in the same state with Ms. Entin, my teacher. In many regions in Indonesia, the teachers were insidious, and they made a trick with the score. They change their students’ answer before giving it to the test organizers. Not only that case, but also the teachers in North Sumatra province distributes the key answer of the examination before the test held to the students. Moreover, the teachers distribute the answer in front of the school, neglecting the observers which were currently doing their duty.

Health problem will also appear if the major separation is held too late. Separation usually comes as a bet among the students: They win the bet if they are chosen as an elite science-class student, and they should take the shame if they entered a social or language class. Uniquely, the bet is not only held in the students, but also the parents. The parents expect their lovely child to step into the science classroom, because of their belief that a science class’ students will get a better occupation. The complication of parents’ pressure, prestige, and the subjects in school can trigger a disease for our youth generation, form stressed, migraine, to aneurism. Aneurism is a swollen blood vessel in the brain after the vessels cannot resist the high blood pressure. Eventually, the vessels will broke, and this disease will bring about the death one step closer to the youth.

To underline, major separation is a sound program as long as it is held previously. The government’s intention to focus the subjects is really good, but the timing is not really appropriate with the condition. Our youth generations are really need the good program to support their talent, either on academic sector or not. And the new Minister of Education, Mohammad Nuh, should do some movement and give emphasize, especially about this problem. Otherwise, our country’s successors are at risk.

I thank Jusuf Kalla, who has been at my side for the past five years. Your service is now noted in perpetuity in the annals of the nation’s history and will always be remembered.

We have just emerged from a 2004-2009 period that was filled with challenge. Today the Indonesian nation is thankful and satisfied that in the midst of the political unrest and crises in various parts of the world, we are still standing upright as a democratic state that is relatively strong and stable.

In the midst of the global financial storm, Indonesia continues to grow positively and experience the third highest growth rate in the world. In the midst of conflicts and disintegration in other parts of the world, Indonesia has become more harmonious and united.

But all of this should not make us drop our guard, or become complacent, or — even more so — too proud. Remember, our work is far from over. Like a ship on its journey, we still have to face an ocean that is full of waves and storms.

Beyond Indonesia, the economic recession is not yet fully over. Trade and investment flow has yet to fully recover. The prices of oil and other commodities continue to fluctuate and could threaten the stability and the certainty in our economy. Thus, even though the signs of a recovering world economy are beginning to show, we should not idly daydream, but continue to strengthen our economy while also furthering national efforts to minimize the impact of the current world crisis.

Internally, we have to be thankful that reforms continue to take hold. Efforts to build good governance and eradicate corruption have started to yield results but still need to be stepped up. Poverty has indeed begun to wane, but efforts to enhance the prosperity of the people still need to be continued.

Experience shows that for each achievement we have made, new challenges follow. But I believe all those challenges, both those we know of and those we cannot yet imagine, we will be able to face and overcome together.

This year we have seen the people of Indonesia make their choice in elections that have taken place in a peaceful and democratic manner. This is the third time we have been able to hold direct, general, free, as well as honest and fair, elections.

In elections, winning or losing is normal. In a democracy, we all are winners: If democracy wins, the people win and Indonesia wins.

I thank Megawati Sukarnoputri, Prabowo Subianto, Muhammad Jusuf Kalla and Wiranto for their active participation and model conduct as candidates in the presidential election. They are the sons and daughters of the nation who have been of service in nurturing democracy in our homeland.

Today, I call on all components of this nation to unite again and together build this country, build a future for us all. With a new spirit and togetherness, let us face the developments of the next five years with optimism and full of confidence.

Boediono and I have prepared programs for next five years of our administration. The essence of the five-year program is the enhancement of people’s welfare, and the strengthening of democracy and justice.

Raising people’s prosperity is the main priority. We want to increase the welfare of the people via economic development based on competitive advantage, management of natural resources and enhanced human resources.

Our economy needs to grow, but this economic growth should be one that is inclusive, just and accompanied by equitable distribution.

We also want to build a civilized democratic system, a democracy that provides room for freedom and political rights for the people but without dismissing stability and political order.

We also want to create a justice system that is marked by respect for nondiscriminatory practices and equal opportunity while maintaining social solidarity and protection for the weak.

There are several keys to successfully achieving the aim of increasing prosperity and enhancing democracy and justice.

First of all, we should never give up and lose our spirit. Remember that all our nation’s monumental achievements, from the revolution, the development of the national reform and the settlement of various conflicts, including the handling of the tsunami, have all been made possible by perseverance and a relentless spirit. We must always be able to rekindle this “can-do spirit.”

With this spirit of perseverance, we will be able to safeguard our economic growth though the world crisis. With this spirit, we will be able to uphold good governance and eradicate corruption. With this spirit, too, we will be able to reduce poverty and build prosperity.

The second key to success lies in unity and cohesion. In a democracy, we can have different opinions, but this does not mean that we should be divided. In a healthy democracy, there are times when we engage in debate, and there are times when we close our ranks.

In facing the various and increasingly heavy world challenges, the nation’s leaders, no matter their political colors, should continue to maintain solidarity in looking for solutions, being ever ready for self-sacrifice for the larger interests of the nation. In continuing this journey, and in conducting the second wave of reforms for the next 10 years, let us all nurture and strengthen our unity.

Thirdly, we must maintain our identity, our Indonesianness. What differentiates Indonesia from other nations is our culture — our way of life and our sense of being Indonesian. There is an identity and personality that makes this Indonesian nation unique and not easily rocked. Our Indonesianness is reflected in our pluralism, or our unity in diversity, our decency, tolerance and moderation, openness and sense of humanity.

These are what we should continue to nurture and grow in our conscience. This is our most valuable social capital.

The presence of foreign dignitaries at this inauguration is a source of goodwill and respect. Indonesia will continue to fight for justice and world peace. Indonesia will maintain a friendly and moderate spirit of nationalism. Indonesia is facing a strategic environment where no country perceives our nation as an enemy and there is no country that Indonesia considers an enemy. Indonesia will apply foreign policy in all directions to the point where we have a million friends and zero enemies.

Lastly, Indonesia will cooperate with anyone with the same intentions and goals to build a peaceful, just, democratic and prosperous world. Indonesia will remain at the forefront of efforts to save the earth from climate change while the world economy undergoes reform, mainly through the G-20 in the fight for the UN Millennium Development Goals, and advance multilateralism through the United Nations and create harmony among countries.

Last morning is an unforgettable morning for Indonesian. Our president, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, was re-inagurated after making an easy win in last election, with his run-mate, Boediono, a former governor of Bank Indonesia. The location of inaguration, House of Representatives complex, wass guarded tightly. The road surrounded this huge complex closed, causing a traffic-headache among Jakarta’s driver.

Inside the building, many mass media were informing about this event. Each with its speciality and typical of broadcast, but I am only divide them with two groups: RCTI, with its program “Dahsyat”, and the others, such as SCTV, Trans7, Trans TV, TVOne, and Metro TV with their news reporters.

Dahsyat this morning (it sounds like the English-news program in Metro TV, Indonesia This Morning) shows earlier, from seven thirty. From Ari Lasso to Afgan, from Dewa to Pee Wee Gaskins, they performed in many stages. Recalling my sobering memory, I think they performed from 4 different places: 3 on the RCTI complex, and 1 on the House of Representatives building.

Back to the morning inaguration, the ceremony was well-planned. Starting with Indonesia’s national anthem Indonesia Raya, it was co’ntinued by the People’s Consultative Assembly leader’s welcoming speech. The time passed fast, and it only remained the last point, singing Indonesia Raya.

While all of other channel shows Indonesia Raya, RCTI broadcasted the Pee Wee Gaskins, live from its studio in Kebon Jeruk. I was curious with this young-generation band, and when most of my friends know about it, I was a bit green. At first, I knew Pee Wee Gaskins is similar with Mbah Surip.

I was confused. I, of course, very love my country, and this remarkable moment can be the last moment when my nationalism was knocked, and I could be proud of Indonesia for the last time before my departure day. But, in the other hand, I wanted to know what Pee Wee Gaskins was, how they perform, and how did I react with their song.

I decided to see the inaguration first, and then try to digest what the band said. Standing up when the Indonesia Raya played by the military orchestra, I had to sit down in my la-Z-boy sofa, listen to the lyrics and the arrangement. It sounds well, both of them, although I admit that the song is hard to understand, and for me it is dissonant.

But I absorb this problem deeply, inside my mind. I am sure, this problem about choose a song is actually depend on how nationalist you are, how you love your country, which have been maintained by our founding father.

Is the nationalism in the Indonesian young generation have eased?

Widifermadhana Asrah (15, Indonesia) | 09:30 (GMT + 7) | Bekasi, Indonesia.

The wrong counter

Having a Ramadan calendar was not makes my count easier. It was all about my promise to my parents to finish my reading Koran at the end of Ramadan, a fasting and holy month for Moslem all around the world. After making a long taking bath, I decided to pray a dhuha, a morning prayer. My prayer likely was not be accepted by God Almighty, because I lost my seriousness. I was feeling very tired after doing some exercises.

Because knowing my prayer was faster than usual, I started to say an apologize word to my God. I began my prayer with saying a takbir, tahmid, and tahlil, as a praise. After that act of persuading, I made up my mind to starts my hope.

“Ya Allah, please forgive me, your slave, who have done much wrong habits in the past. Please understand that I am just an ordinary man that never been hinder from any mistake. Please support me in my down, and remind me to be humble in my culmination point. Do not let me slip into a valley of sin, and please hinder me from your torture. Please forgive also my father, mother, and my brother’s mistakes. Lengthen their age, and keep them and me from any diseases. Ya Allah, please makes my way for doing some religious service easier, especially this is the …”

I want to say “… the twentieth of Ramadan, and there are only 10 days left to the end of this holy month, etc…” But actually, I can’t! I started to being confused with my own question: What date is today? I tried to remember what the preacher said in his speech right before break-fasting time, but I forgot to put it in my brain. I am getting blue in the face. I wanted to say something badly, but it could make my fast become useless. How stupid was I to forget this important thing! I thought Allah, who had just rolled His red carpet for me and my prayer, rerolled its carpet and put it back in the warehouse.

I took a look at my room’s door, but I had decided not to cross my own calendar for the collection purpose. So, I went to my kitchen in a flash, where the other Ramadan calendar was put. It had been crossed on the eighteenth day, but it did not simply mean that today is the nineteenth day. My maid and my mother sometimes got forgot, and then they crossed out the calendar before the day was over, and it meant it can be either eighteenth or nineteenth, but not twentieth.

However, although I had getting confused because of my own “misfortune” (it’s not my mistake!), I suddenly realized a little advantage of my behavior. After having been feel worried due to my disability cannot fulfill my own debt (according to Prophet Mohammad hadist stating promise is a debt), I can breathe calmly again. I feel relieved when I know that I didn’t have to read many pages –at least 40 pages– of my Koran. Until that day, I had just finished reading the sixth chapter of Koran, and if today were the twentieth Ramadan, I would have to fasten my reading to the tenth chapter, poor me! Alhamdulillah, praise be upon you.

In the end of the day, at last I knew this day is nineteenth. It seems I had to read two more chapters, this day, as usual.

9 September 2009.

Clearing land in Perintis Kemerdekaan street, East Jakarta, was doing in order to widen the Rio-Rio Lake. It was done in 1965, but this project was stopped due to the crisis.

Jakarta, being a capital city of Indonesia, is currently developing itself to be a metropolitan city. Seeing a trend in the foreign capital city such as Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, Jakarta is likely following their way of building a modern community. Modern minimalist structures are being built by the developer, in order to fulfill increasing demand of working lot. Local government also Jakarta’s authorities not only developed more building, but also creating more park and recreational garden. They consider the importance of those, because it can absorb the rain water and reduce the flood height. Flood have become a biggest trouble in Jakarta in the last 10 years, because its height always become higher every annually rain season.

Being a common secret is that Jakarta attracts people, who come from any direction, to work here. People from its surrounding city like Tangerang, Bogor and Bekasi, comes to Jakarta to earn money from companies. And Jakarta is not only for those, but also for all cities in Indonesia. From Bataknese to Papuanese, from Javanese to Bugisnese, you can see it here. Bataknese is commonly known as an angkot and city bus driver, when Bugisnese is a great seller. This diverse and much people, give local authorities a problem: Where are they temporarily living?

The lucky and well-planned urban can live with their relatives, but the poor and unlucky urbane build a temporary house in the vile community, or more often in the authorities empty space. They, who have a low-salary profession, cannot afford to buy, or even rent, a permanent house. Moreover, they make up their temporary house illegally. They do not have a permission to live in one’s lot. That’s why their house sometimes can be condemned by the Civil Services Police, or commonly considered as Satpol PP. Although they are illegal, we have to give more affection with this people. They lose everything they have in the clearing. They want to look for some money here, but they don’t have anything require making them have a good-salary job. We, you and me as a student, can help them with 3 things.

They want to look for some money here, but they don’t have anything require making them have a good-salary job.

First, we have to support their children’, so they can still reach the education. Those urban people usually live in Jakarta not lonely, but they take their closest family here. They think, their child will have the better learning here. Sparing some of our stationery is quite good, or buying the kids new stationery is will be better for them. The other way of helping those kids is buying them a school uniform, or giving a textbook for them. When the eviction is done by Civil Services Police, they usually lose their book inside its ruins house. By the time execution, the kids are panic and do not have much time to safe something inside his house. You also can be a philanthropic with being a temporary teacher for the street school. It much helps them to pursue his dream.

The next point is we have to support its economic income. Ask your relatives, whether they have the own enterprises or not. If they are an entrepreneur, urge them to give more priority to the victim of condemnation. Why? Usually, the owner of that house, either husband or wife, is a breadwinner for its family. The father, who has an occupation usually as a labor construction, loses his spade, hammer, or another tools needed. Otherwise, the mother, who used to sell household needs in her warong, no longer can does her economic activity. The time of execution is very fast, and most polices directly broke their house. And, if you have much money, give it to the victims, and help them to manage this financial capital. The poor usually does not have an ability to control it, and we have to make sure what we have given is used rightly and wisely. Remember: This catastrophe does not only clean up the land, but also clean up their occupation.

The last and the most important thing to do is we have to rebuild its home. If you are coming from the middle-up class, you can do more. Give them a modest house, because we think the victims will not request much to us. They, who have just suffered a shocking part of their life, only want to live conveniently and healthy, because the condition at the shelter post is not comfortable. The shelter usually only consist of the tent, without water and power supply. Oh, unless you were born as the uptown boys or girls, you can still support them with sharing house with them. If you have one room which being empty now, share it with them. Giving food and appropriate facility is two aid you can do to help them.

To underline, although we are still a student, we can also do something to take their misfortune away. Being a benevolent people is very useful for the hereafter, because as a believer of one religion, all our good deeds, big or small, will be replied to us by God Almighty. Human-being are blessed with the feeling of pity and sad. However the value of help, it is meant very important to the victims, because being philanthropist does not mean that you forget yourself. You are only paying more attention to your surrounding people.

Sport are likely favorable, all over the world. Doing some sport regularly, you will feel healthier and better. It is up to you, whether you choose an individual sport like taking regular class at the gym, or you will find better if you are running at the jogging track. For the young people, they prefer choosing a group and game sport, such as basketball, football, or mini soccer, which is becoming popular nowadays. Go to the nearest mini soccer field in your town, pay an affordable price, and then just enjoy your time with your friends. Oh, do not forget to bring your cloth, and your sport drinks, so water inside your body can be replaced faster after sweating.

A sports drinks, which is a beverage designed to help you rehydrate, is being popular nowadays. The invention of taking the nutrient substance from a natural resources make this drink can be created. Why? Because human want to reap the maximum nutrient, without eat too much food or drink much beverage. Human make this artificial substance, and then put it in their drink. Whenever they feel exhausted after doing some sport, they drink it. The advertisement are shown about it, with the sport stars drink it and after that. Voila! They are be refreshed after dehydrated. They can do a hat trick goal, can make a 3-point, or can make a deadly smash. But, the next case is that the sport stars is not a kids or teenager. Kids and teenager are not good to drink a sport drinks.

A sport drink, have long been linked with obesity, especially for kids. Kids who like to do some sport games (basketball, mini soccer), is not an athlete. The differences are, athletes need it obviously, because they really lose their fluid body when exercising. In the other hand, kids are only feeling that they lose much of it. They only suffered exhausted. Nanny Clark, a registered dietician and sports nutritionist in Boston, said that most kids with aged less than 12 do not work hard enough to eligible the terms of drinking a sports drink. Otherwise, the sugar, which usually be added to the beverage, can put more carbohydrate, then causing more fat on your body. The sports drink using is right if kids are a real athlete, but the fact is the kids just like to play around.

…most kids with aged less than 12 do not work hard enough to eligible the terms of drinking a sports drink.

The risks of tooth decay also raises when the kids are like to drink this kind of beverage. Kids prefer sweet water to a natural water. What substance will increase the possibility of decaying tooth is glucose and fructose, added by the producer in order to attract the buyer with its taste. This artificial sugar generates the bacteria in a person’s mouth to change them to a lactic acid. If this acid is left inside the tooth, the tooth will suffer a demineralization (a process when a mineral arranging tooth becomes moldy). The demineralization is becoming more dangerous if the kids are rarely clean up their teeth.

The drinks also increase the risk of heart disease. This case is generated by sucrose, another type of sugar, almost similar with sucrose and fructose. The sugar, which generates every kind of drawbacks of sports drink, causes more fat inside our body. This excessive fat is no longer put inside our skin, but it is put in the inner wall of kids’ blood vessels, especially the vessels toward their heart. What are going to happen next? The blood vessels will be narrower than before. Then, if it is blocked by those piles of fat, the blood flow will be stopped. When this happens, the blocked vessels cannot supply blood to the heart and brain, and then become damaged.

To concluding, the sports drinks are inappropriate to used by kids. It is unhealthy, and its sugar generates many problems in their life. Instead drinking it, use mineral water to protect your kids from those drawbacks.

China, which is the most populated country in the world, have achieved its dream during the early twentyfirst century. When other countries are still struggling to make its economy be positive after the crisis hit the world last year, China are currently trying to be a locomotive, in order to pull out the major countries from a bad economy growth. Starting with the Four-Modernization Program, China emerged itself to a biggest economic power in the world.

In the past, China have been known as the undemocratic country: represive, rude, limiting information, and limit people to give their opinion. This opinion are still true until today. Press are pushed to inform a good story, internet are limited and blocked by China’s goverment. Our freedom as a human are still limited, as it was done to a moslem community in Urumqi. Many countries, especially the West and Europe, have tried to remember the country to open its curtain, but it seems work not well. China still do the represive way to minimize the effect of applying democracy, moreover with the last big demostration in Urumqi, which are involved a common labor. If China continues this manner, economy of China will slow down, fast or late.

First risk, if China does not apply a real democracy, companies will take their money away of this country. It seems not logic, but I think it could be happened. The labor’s right to state their own opinion softly was not fulfilled. Demonstration will happen everywhere, and a strict government actually do not hear their voice. This strike will reduce their productivity. Process of production will stop when the labor stop working. As a culmination of these action, the company will close the factory, which can cause financial loss for this country. 48.4 percent of China’s Gross National Product comes from secondary sector (manufacture and industry).

Mass media, is one of the most powerful tool to direct people opinion about something. China closes their country smartly. For a long time, the world does not know what China is. When they knew about it, they shocked. For example, is Tiananmen Square Protest, the big protest who are led by students and intellectuals in 1989, forbid to be written by Chinese media and website, newspapers, films, and books, because China’s army do something bad there. Although China’s government have done anything to whitewash this story, slowly but surely, the information is started to open. It makes a worldwide media starts to report a bad news in China. This salient start provoke a question: Does China really safe for investment? It bring the world’s opinion become less productive for China. China, who are trying to ensure a stability, precisely get a bad opinion from the international community, which can threat an economic activity with its partner.

No use to be asked, if the market plays an important role to a producer. For example, rottan chair producer in Indonesia are getting worried when Europe and Japan, their main market, are join the line of crisis with America. If the market are not buying their goods anymore, the producer will have a financial loss. It also happened with the Coca Cola Company, a company that produce Coca Cola. They loss many million dollars when the Middle East boycott its product after the Afghanistan War. Similarly, how about if the countries do it to China?

US, have a problem with China, moreover after the Cold War finished. Unlike Vietnam and Yugoslavia, China (and Russian also) are still not to follow the America’s intention. Whereas in fact, America’s is the largest export destination of China. Not only it, based on wikipedia.org, China’s top 5 export destination are liberal countries: US, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, and Germany. If they are threat to stop their economic activity with China, China will suffered a crisis.

To concluding, a limited democracy will disturb a development program of China. I think, implementation of democracy in China have to be fastened, and the goverment should set some rule about it. Economy is important to think, but the China’s leader have to turn democracy on its ear. They have to embrace it, as a progress of its culture. If they don’t want to accept democratical movement in its country, they will down on their luck.
